Counseling Perspective

Biography

Andrew’s approach to counselling is grounded in evidence-based practice, drawing primarily on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, person-centred and solution-focused approaches. He believes that understanding why we respond and behave in certain ways can create space for change. His role is not to tell clients how they should live, but to work alongside them to better understand what is happening, identify what may be getting in the way, and develop practical ways forward.

Andrew has spent more than 20 years working in youth and community services in Australia and internationally. He has worked with young people, men and women, families and communities across Australia, Asia and East Africa, experiences that have given him a broad appreciation of the different cultural, social and personal factors that can shape people’s lives. He has lived and worked in Singapore since 2020 and enjoys working with adults and adolescents in Singapore, in person and online.

His move into counselling grew from a longstanding desire to work directly with people and support them to overcome the barriers that can prevent them from living healthy and fulfilling lives. Andrew brings this practical, people-focused perspective to his counselling work. He sees therapy as a collaborative process and believes that meaningful change often begins with having a safe space to slow down, make sense of things and see our experiences from a different perspective.

Outside of counselling, Andrew enjoys travelling, hiking and reading. Having lived and worked in different parts of the world, he remains curious about people, cultures and the experiences that shape how we see ourselves and the world around us.
