Counseling Perspective

Online Counselling in Singapore

The availability of online therapy is on the rise and this trend is expected to continue. Many have come to find online video counselling sessions to be a more convenient and accessible option than attending in-person counselling.

Starting from $150 / 60-min session

What is Online Counselling?

Online counselling (also called online therapy) works in much the same way as traditional counselling. You make an appointment with your preferred therapist or psychologist, and meet together to talk through any mental health concerns, life transitions, or other challenges you may be experiencing.

The only difference is that instead of you coming into a physical location for face-to-face counselling sessions, you and your therapist connect via video calls. This lets you attend a session from anywhere, including the private and safe space of home.

Because being able to talk to a counsellor online instead of face-to-face is still a relatively new concept, our understanding of its pros and cons is still evolving. However, the evidence so far strongly suggests that online Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an effective form of psychotherapy.

A comprehensive meta-analysis of 64 studies has shown that online counselling with CBT appears even more effective than traditional face-to-face therapy for treating the following mental health conditions: major depression, generalised anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, and panic disorder. A systematic review of studies on online CBT treatments drew similarly positive conclusions.

What Are the Benefits of Online Counselling?

Convenience

Online counselling services can be the better option if your schedule makes it difficult to meet physically with a counsellor. Attending mental health therapy online saves time commuting, and lets you talk to a counsellor at your convenience. You can even attend a session during work hours without having to rush around on your lunch break.

Accessibility

Going to therapy counselling online can be a good option if you have mobility issues, physical health problems, or difficulty with getting reliable transport to and from a Singapore counselling centre. It can also offer more affordable access to counselling resources, as some of our therapists offer clients reduced rates for online sessions.

Privacy

Whether online or in-person, all counselling sessions are kept strictly confidential between you and your chosen mental health professional. But if you would prefer an even more private and anonymous counselling service, then online sessions remove the risk of accidentally being spotted at a counsellor's office by friends or neighbours.

Online Therapy for Mental Wellness

An online counsellor can support your mental well-being and help you to gain improved self-esteem and quality of life. Some of the online counselling services we offer are listed below. All of our professional counsellors, therapists and psychologists are available for online counselling sessions, as well as for traditional face-to-face appointments with adults, young adults, and children.

Major depression is an illness that causes feelings of continuous sadness, low energy, lack of interest in activities, and loss of pleasure in life. Though it's normal to feel down from time to time, you should seek help if the feelings persist. Attending psychotherapy ("talk therapy") sessions with a professional therapist can offer support, resources and healing.

Generalised Anxiety Disorder is a mental illness characterised by a persistent state of fear, tension, and stress that impedes your everyday life, even with the knowledge that your worries may be unfounded. Anxiety is a treatable condition. Our therapists have helped many clients to process and manage their anxiety through online counselling.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is caused by exposure to an extremely distressing event. PTSD can lead to a range of debilitating mental health impacts, including flashbacks, nightmares, depression, and feeling detached from the world. Online sessions with a therapist can help to manage and overcome these symptoms from the safe space of home.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a common mental disorder characterised by unwanted obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviours. These symptoms can have a deleterious impact on quality of life. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is an effective treatment for OCD, and can be administered in online counselling sessions.

Anger Issues

The aim of anger management therapy is to find out how you can react effectively and suitably to circumstances that make you angry, so that you can eventually keep your anger in check. Anger management services can give you the support you need to gain control of your emotions. The first step is to arrange a session to talk with a therapist.

Relationship Issues

Relationship problems often come about due to issues such as miscommunication, misalignment of values, or one or both parties feeling a lack of support. Relationship counselling sessions aim to establish a safe space where both parties can openly talk about challenges and resolve their relationship troubles together.

He began his counselling journey by being introduced to behavioural compulsions and impulse control difficulties, which also happen to be his areas of speciality. He has facilitated all-male support groups for compulsive sexual behaviour disorder, and behaviour modification for problematic sexual behaviour, in both private and governmental settings. In these two environments, Varian worked with clients on their psychoeducation and to unlearn the shame and guilt surrounding compulsion.
